Just look at these two! Aren't they just having the time of their lives? The perfect mackerel fishing tag team = chaos in the best possible way. These guys had a wonderful trip, catching fish after fish and that is exactly what mackerel fishing does; it brings the opportunity to catch lots and lots of fish. Warning! Family memories for life made here. We remember going on fishing trips when we were little (and that is way tooooo long ago now :) We truly believe that a mackerel fishing trip is one of the few things in life that is clearly remembered from childhood. This boils down to the thrill of catching your own treasure; and we do not use the word treasure lightly, for that is exactly what freshly caught mackerel are; the stuff of legends. Iridescent colours, glinting in the sun, to be hunted and gathered. No wonder we named Epic's boat 'Legend of New Quay'. She make's legendary treasure hunts a family thing of joy. Ready and waiting. This is a picture of the stern rod holders on Legend of New Quay with New Quay looking as resplendent as always in the background. Beautiful boat moored in a beautiful village. Hmm it makes one feel all chocolate boxy and warm around the edges.

We have moved into the summer fishery now with mackerel being very much on the fishing menu. Customers love catching mackerel, they are such pretty fish and what wonderful eating. They are by no means the only fish we catch at this time of year, with plenty of other species coming aboard. From bass to pollack and herring to cod, we see them all on a summer time Epic fishing trip.

Not every fish we catch is a record breaker. But the fun that can be had from catching any fish, no matter how big or small :) is an epic thing; family fun at its very best.

It is the Jubilee week soon and we can not wait. We join with the rest of the UK in expressing many epic congratulations to Her Majesty. She is a great lover of the outdoor life and there are many pictures of her enjoying recreation at sea and in the countryside. Indeed she used to go fishing with His Royal Highness the late Prince Philip. What better recommendation can there be, than to join us on an Epic Fishing Trip!

It is May and the weather is improving markedly. It is a little known fact that summer here tends to be late May through June and into early July. Good weather usually brings calm seas and with calm seas the Mackerel arrive. It is too early yet to fish for them, so we are continuing to run our family friendly deep sea fishing trips! We catch all sorts of species with the bait we use from whiting (great eating!) to spider crabs and octopus to sharks! We are deep sea fishing right now. And that means 'you never know what's going to come up'! This is a Scorpion Fish. He's a grumpy fellow (the fish, not the Skipper) harmless but full of posturing self defence. It is a great, super fun catch. This fish has added to the mixed bag of species that we have been catching recently, with Octopus being the most unusual. They too are wonderful to see and many a customer has been thrilled to come face to face with one of the most intelligent creatures of the sea.

You will be pleased to learn that we have kept our trip pricing at the same price as last year. And we have also continued not to charge a commission fee on our tickets (unlike all of the Dolphin trip boats here in New Quay). That represents a great value holiday experience that not only offers the opportunity of catching something amazing but also, seeing the Dolphins. There is no better.

We can not believe how much fishing fun is going on at the moment! It is family time and that is what Epic does; we provide the perfect platform for a fun family experience, all you need to do is book on a trip by hitting the BOOK NOW button and come along and experience it! At the moment the tides are in a spring tidal sequence and the loading pier dries at low water, preventing boat access. The consequence of that is that there are limited trips right now. Roooooooomy. No not rooooney (as the football chant used to go) but roomy. How else could you describe the acres of deck space on our wonderful boat Legend of New Quay. One thing is for sure, you will not feel crowded aboard our boat. It is made for fishing and it is made for families to have their own space to enjoy fishing. That's the way we do things here at Epic, we put you guys first. So if you haven't tried a fishing trip yet then there can be no excuses. Big rooooomy boat, spotlessly clean and with seating for all. Make sure you bring the whole family. There is always plenty of things to see, including bottlenose dolphins and experience has shown that once on the trip, everyone joins in and has a ball.

Mum's and son's, father's and daughters, friends and family all are welcome on an Epic Fishing Trip. Trips start as of 12th of this month; wow we can not believe how quickly the winter passes and a new season appears from over the horizon. This season will be extra epic with some brand new fishing kit aboard for all to use and as always the highest level of service. Love catching these fish. This is a Thornback Ray or as we like to fondly name them - a thorny. Aptly named as they do have the most severe thorns across the whole of their backs. You can tell that I am nervous of getting a thorn in my winger by the way I am holding it :) But they are an ace, fun fish to catch and the good news is, we catch plenty. Now is the time as we will start the season running bait fishing trips and thorny's love a bit of bait. We nearly always use squid as our bait of choice (don't worry as we do all the messy bits for you). And a thornback loves nothing more than a bit of squid. For the cooks amongst you these fish are fileted into skate wings. Serve with capers and black butter for a Rick Stein seafood feed. Yum.

One of the most wonderful and unexpected outcomes from running our famous 1.5hr fishing trips is just how many girls and ladies jump aboard to join in the fun fishing. On the boat, we keep everything spotlessly clean and anyone who gets aboard Legend of New Quay will be impressed by her cleanliness and tidiness. We believe that, for some, fishing might have a messy feel. Well that is defo not the case with epic. It is fishing, done right, for all; no matter who you are or where you are from. What type of fishing do we prefer? Well, we specialise in delivering modern, clean, family fun fishing trips all season long but some trips can be more fun than others. In early season around April and May we really enjoy taking families to go deep sea fishing. It is the mystery of what might come up that is so engaging. For this team it was a brace of Cat Sharks. These true sharks are more commonly known as Dog Fish, but we all know they are and always will be, sharks! Grrr. How many kids can go back to school after the Easter holidays and boast to their friends that they caught a shark! Luv it when a fish of a lifetime turns up; as it did for Tim last September. It made his fishing year and pretty much made ours too! As the saying goes, 'You can only win it, if you are in it' and that boils down to getting an epic fishing trip booked. Online booking is live again! No wonder this lady is so excited :) Well, let us be honest, she is actually excited about catching a fish and why not? Isn't that exactly what a trip with Epic is all about, having fun and enjoying yourselves. You can now book trips from 12th April through to the end of June. Trips in July and August will be released in mid Spring time. We are doing this so that we can react to any further Covid-19 related legislation that might flow from the Welsh Government. So get your spring time fishing booked up now. We will be specialising in reef fishing with bait for the first few weeks. Love that style of fishing because you never know what might come up. Seasonal greetings from team Epic :) We recently took a drive up to Aberystwyth Marina to check on our wonderful trip boat Legend. We regularly travel up to the marina to run up her engines and give her a look over. It is important to give them some run time through the long winter lay up, if nothing else it recharges her batteries and sends some oil around the engine blocks. Can only be a good thing, for her and frankly, for us as well, as it is always good to see her! She was doing just fine and seemed to enjoy our company; she even asked that we send her seasonal greetings to you all. So here's our very best for a relaxing and peaceful festive period from team Epic and Legend of New Quay.

Could December be cuddle a shark month? Probably not as we do our Tope shark cuddling in the late spring of every year. Think late May, June and early July and you'll be in prime shark cuddling season! However, December is exactly the right month to get your trip of a lifetime booked up, as from now onwards our booking diary starts to fill quickly. We are all in the middle of those short, dark November days right now. This photo contrasts this beautifully; don't you think? Bright skies and the feeling of adventure as we leave the harbour on an epic fishing trip and head for the horizon. This is always a special moment and for us and one of the best parts of the day, as expectation and excitement reverberate around the boat. Love it!

The Tope fishing season is beginning to look a bit chocker with bookings. From mid May onwards they will be our target species and until early July we will be chasing them with boats full of customers. Well, well, well, it is November. Our boat, the amazing Legend of New Quay, is tucked up safe and sound in Aberystwyth Marina and we have already started all the winter maintenance. One of the most mundane but nevertheless essential jobs is taking all of her kit home. You know that we always hand out the best of fishing tackle to our customers, well there is no point leaving it to decay aboard the boat. So everything comes back to a warm dry house. From first aid kits and life jackets, through to fishing rods and reels and even the ships binoculars. Every item gets cleaned, oiled where necessary and stowed away ready to come back out, in pristine condition next early spring. Very few do this as thoroughly as we do, that's Epic; always doing it right.

The picture above is of a big Tope. Tope fishing trips are the big thing at the moment and we are already taking bookings for next Tope season (May & June). Next year the trips will be bespoke only. Small groups of up to five anglers max, supplied with high end tackle. Modern, clean, professional and fun sea angling for small teams. Quality will be the buzz word. It is mid October and Legend of New Quay arrives in Aberystwyth Harbour and cruises towards her berth in Aberystwyth Marina. It is always a poignant moment. Great memories of a wonderful season filled with happy customers enjoying an Epic time fishing with us and yet, at the same time, we have to acknowledge that the boating year is coming to an end. Let us take this opportunity to say thank you to you all. It has been a real pleasure. Clapping hands icon! Throughout the winter we will keep you updated on forthcoming events on our social media and here on the JSYK (just so you know) page. There is always Epic stuff planned and next year will be a mega one for news!

We can not believe that it is October already. There has been so much fish filled fun this summer that we have hardly noticed the days roll by. So many families, so many friends, so many customers. A huge Epic thank you, from all of our team, goes out to you all. We have loved every moment and we know you have too :).

We have already started making plans for next season. We always want to get better at what we do and we are pleased to 'leak' one of our newbie ideas! In mid season this summer we received some feedback from a customer, that they thought that our wonderful trip boat Legend of New Quay does not have a fish finder. £180,000 worth of fishing trip boat with no fish finder! Well obviously it does and obviously we use it all of the time. However we have not been telling people that we are using it, which was perhaps remiss of us and we now do tell everybody, on every trip, that we are using it; which frankly, gets a bit repetitive. So next year we will have an external fish finder screen, on deck, so everybody can watch it. Now that is a novel idea, you will be able to see the fish you are fishing for; brilliant!

Ahhhh you can almost smell it! If ever a photo summed up the experience of joining one of our Epic fishing trips, then this is it. The satisfaction of a fun fish filled trip, tipped with the anticipation of freshly caught and freshly BBQ'd mackerel. Love it :)

After weeks of glorious settled weather here in Cardigan Bay, it finally turned today. Now is the autumnal equinox and that is synonymous with rough seas. It has proved to be the case today with the sea way to rough to sensibly go fishing. Indeed the forecast is not great and we can foresee a prolonged period of rough weather ahead. So there are no trips available through our online booking portal - apologies for this but here at Epic we always place your safety first. We can not believe that it is now late September. Wow, how time flies when you are having fun. And that is just what loads of folk have had this summer with epic - epic fun :) Just like the team in the picture, they had a great trip aboard the wonderful Legend of New Quay. Well actually all we do is cruise you out to the right spot, give you the best of fishing tackle and a quick demo on how to fish and bingo; fish on! The fishing is all down to you and if they are biting, you will soon be catching. There are trips running right through the month, so don't delay come and have a go.

Well we did say :) September is the very best month to come Mackerel fishing from New Quay and the biggest mackerel of the season so far, has turned up today. What a beauty! It is always a special moment when a cracking fish like this shows up and this particular moment was all the better, as it was caught by a member of a stag group. An afternoon of BBQ'ing (and no drinking) lay ahead for this team; what a brilliant way to spend an afternoon. So whether you are a family group, a couple, stags & hens or just you on your own, please do come along and give us a go this September. We know it will be Epic!
